The Death of the Blackbirds
My sophomore year of undergrad my university made national headlines when it decided to merge together two separate colleges in order to create one large university. Our school was merged with it’s sister school, which was over an hour drive away. Part of this merger included moving entire teams and displacing numerous athletes, ending the athletic careers of dozens of Divisions 1 athletes. I wrote this article profiling my friend who was one of those athletes faced with the difficult decision of retiring early due to the recklessness of the University.

My senior year of undergraduate university the athletics department added a new team to the university, water polo. I interviewed the new coach and athletes to write this article on the new squad.
